Official PST requirements
Navy Diver PST Standards
Navy Divers conduct salvage, ship repair, and underwater construction. These values reflect the basic Navy Diver (M1DV) standard.
| Event | Minimum | Competitive |
|---|---|---|
| 500 yd swim | 12:30 | 11:00 |
| Push-ups (2 min) | 50 | 70 |
| Sit-ups (2 min) | 50 | 70 |
| Pull-ups (max) | 6 | 10 |
| 1.5 mile run | 12:30 | 11:00 |
Minimums qualify you; they don't select you. The "competitive" column is the elevated standard strong candidates clear on every event. Standards can change — confirm current requirements with your NSW coordinator or recruiter before an official test.
What it takes
Passing vs. getting picked up
Diver candidates should treat the swim as the signature event — comfort in the water at pace matters more here than raw land numbers.

FAQ
Navy Diver PST questions, answered straight
What are the Navy Diver PST minimums?
Navy Diver candidates must complete a 500-yard swim in 12:30, 50 push-ups and 50 sit-ups (2 minutes each), 6 pull-ups, and a 1.5-mile run in 12:30. Events always run in that order, in a single session.
What PST scores are competitive for Navy Diver?
Minimums qualify you; they don't select you. Competitive Navy Diver candidates post roughly a 11:00 swim, 70 push-ups, 70 sit-ups, 10 pull-ups, and a 11:00 run or better. Diver candidates should treat the swim as the signature event — comfort in the water at pace matters more here than raw land numbers.
How is the PST administered?
Five events in fixed order — 500-yard swim, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, 1.5-mile run — with prescribed rest between events. The swim is sidestroke or breaststroke (AIRR candidates may also swim freestyle). Official scores are recorded by a Navy coordinator or, for WarriorPath candidates, by a Field Assessor at a local event.
